Move over Superman, Batman and Spiderman and make way for the PadMan. The story of real life (super)hero Arunachalam Muruganantham will soon be played out on the big screen by (in all likelihood) Akshay Kumar. For those who don’t know Muruganantham, he is the school drop-out from Coimbatore who made it his life’s mission to provide low-cost sanitary napkins to poor women across rural India. Ummm… would this provide enough fodder to make a mainstream Bollywood film, you wonder?
Writer and former actress Twinkle Khanna, who has turned producer with “Pad Man”, says she is proud of being associated with a movie that brings the spotlight on a “shamed” subject like menstruation.
“It (shoot) is going very well and Mr Muruganantham was also there. It’s a wonderful project. It’s a film which will bring awareness about something which has so far been cloaked and shamed and I am very happy to be a part of the film,” Twinkle said.
